Madison “Matte” Cline

UX/UI Design Wizard and Design System Enthusiast

From a young age, I’ve always been the person people turn to when they need something creative. I still remember the excitement of convincing my mom to buy me the 48-pack of Crayola crayons with the built-in sharpener, and how many drawing requests I fulfilled for my friends at school the very next day. That same passion for art and making it for others continues to inspire my work today. My creative journey has been driven by a deep love for both aesthetics and functionality, and I bring that same energy and enthusiasm to every project I take on.

With years of experience in web and product design, I am committed to creating seamless, intuitive, and visually compelling experiences. I believe design should not only serve its purpose but also inspire and engage the user. My process is empathy forward and always user-centered; whether I’m crafting wireframes, developing prototypes, or returning to refine the final product. By blending knowledge from various artistic disciplines, I approach each project with a fresh perspective, striving to deliver solutions that are innovative, yet grounded in timeless design principles.

For me, art and design are powerful tools for communication, and in today’s world, effective communication is more vital than ever. I aim to create designs that not only meet the needs of users but also enrich their experience: making the complex, simple and the ordinary, extraordinary.

As a designer, I pride myself on adaptability, constantly evolving and exploring new styles and techniques to ensure that my work remains both functional and visually captivating. I design not just for you, but with you, understanding that collaboration and empathy are at the heart of creating meaningful, impactful designs.

My process to pixel perfection.

Discovery & Research

Everyone has a problem they need solved— identifying one is just the first step. Here is where I analyze the problem and gather insights through various means of research until I feel confident to tackle the problem.

This step involves:

  • User research (interviews, surveys, analytics)

  • Competitor analysis & auditing

  • User personas

  • User needs, pain points, and business goals.

  • Journey maps & user flows

User Testing & Feedback

Once I think I’m done, I pass the finish product along to relevant hands in order to see if they can break it. By conducting usability testing with real users and stakeholders, I’m able to identify pain points, gather feedback, and either validate or refocus design choices. I then develop the designs based on this feedback to ensure the solution is not only intuitive and effective, but enjoyable for the target audience.

This step involves:

  • User testing

  • Demos to stakeholders and R&D groups

  • Feedback analysis & implementation

Ideation & Wireframing

Brainstorm solutions and sketch out initial ideas. Before I even touch a computer, a UX/UI project starts as a good old fashioned pen and pencil scribble! Only when I begin my wireframes do I touch Figma in order to visualize the layout, structure, and functionality of the interface. This is where I start solidifying a user’s journey and interactions.

This step involves:

  • Pen and paper sketches

  • Wireframes

  • Lots of Post-it Notes

Design & Prototyping

Here’s where the wizardry comes in: I alchemy-like transform wireframes into high-fidelity designs, focusing on developing a perfectly-built design system and visual identity through visual elements like typography, color schemes, and branding. I develop interactive prototypes that allow for testing user flows and interactions, bringing the design to life in a more realistic format.

This step involves:

  • A rock-solid design system

  • Rapid Prototyping

  • Hover-overs and fun animation extras

  • Brand Identity development (logos, colors, typography)

  • High-fidelity Mockups

Development Handoff & Collaboration

Once the design is actually finalized, I collaborate closely with developers to ensure a smooth, seamless handoff. I’ve become an expert at providing all necessary assets, design specifications, and guidance to implement the design accurately. Communication between design and development teams is key for a seamless process, so I ensure that I maintain a positive relationship with the development team.

This step involves:

  • Asset exporting

  • Developer-proofing a file

  • Design quality assurance on live build

Launch & Post-Launch Revision

Even after the product is live and in the users’ hands, my job is still not done. After the product goes live, I monitor user behavior and performance through both raw data/analytics and direct end user feedback. Here, I address any issues or improvements in the design and release updates as necessary to optimize a continued fantastic user experience.

This step involves:

  • Even more feedback

  • Design revision

  • Feature updates & patches
